Hawaii Activities:

Golf
There are well over 100 golf courses on the Hawaiian Islands. Some are either private or military, but in the main there are plenty of championship rated courses for public use dependent on your golf handicap. Aks our experts for more details. The 18-hole Prince Course at the Princeville Hotel on Kauai was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and spans 390 acres of landscaped greens, tropical jungles, waterfalls and ravines.

Riding
Parker Ranch on the Big Island and Molokai Ranch on Molokai are working ranches and are great places for experiencing the very best in riding in Hawaii. Most hotels can advise you about riding facilities in their vacinity, or can advise you of treking excursions from your hotel. Riding lessons can be arranged for the novice.

Parks
Waikiki in particular is famous for its parks including Kapiolani Park, Ala Moana Beach Park and Diamond Head National Park. Parks provide a quiet and relaxing environment, especially beneath a shady tree on a hot day. The Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii is famous for one of the world's active volcanoes, Kilauea, which spouts lava daily on a flow that leads directly into the Pacific Ocean where the lava creates amazing jets of steam as it hits the cooling ocean.

Diving & Snorkelling
Because of their volcanic origin the Hawaiian Islands are surrounded by hundreds of reefs which offer some of the best snorkelling and diving in the world. You'll find diving opportunities in every resort and most hotels offer lessons. In particular the horseshoe-shaped, half submersed crater rim of Molokini (pictured opposite), off Maui and Hanauma Bay, near Waikiki on Oahu are strongly recommended for the diving and snorkelling enthusiast. You can also join night dive excursions when you will see species of fish that hide during daylight hours.

Sailing, Fishing & Windsurfing
Polynesians originally sailed across the Pacific to colonise Hawaii, so its not surprising that sailing is a way of life here, both for leisure and sport fishing. Each island has yacht harbors from where you can either charter boats, or join an organised sailing excursion. Windsurfing is also extremely popular and boards and equipment readily available to hire. Your hotel can advise you of available courses and lessons in both sailing and windsurfing. Alternatively go big game fishing for tuna and swordfish. Excursions run from allthe major Island harbors.

Surfing
Hawaii is the home of surfing. It was made famous for this sport by Duke Kahanamoku, often called 'the father of surfing'. Diamond Head Beach and North Shore on Oahu and Kihei on Maui are recognised surf beaches. Lessons can be arranged for would-be surfers.

Submarine Excursions
A number of companies now run mini-sub excursions around the reefs of Hawaii. On Oahu these operate from the pier at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki and on Maui from the harbor at Lahaina.

Walking & Hiking
Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii is excellent for hiking and walking. Here you'll see Kilauea erupting and enjoy fantastic views atop the extinct volcano of Mauna Loa. Walking trails on the other islands lead to marvellous waterfalls, or the craters of other extinct volcanoes. Ask our experts for more details.

Whale Watching
A seasonal activity that takes place between mid-November and early March. It usually pays to take an offshore boat excursion, though whales are visible from shore, mostly with binoculars. Maui and Molokai are particularly noted for good views from shore with the naked eye.
